Yabu: House of Katsu

A result of a conversation with my mother, we decided to try out Yabu: House of Katsu at the SM Megamall Atrium today. I heard great things about the place, and I was about to put it to the test.

We ordered the 180g Pork Katsu set that comes with rice, miso soup, appetizers and cabbage. We also ordered the chicken katsu so that we could try out both.  The Japanese white rice was sticky and delicious. It came with a sweet sesame katsu sauce, which fit the meat very well.

Miso soup was a little salty, but very tasty. It was a good way to start the meal.

The pork was tender and lean, with no or little fat, which was fantastic. My wife and I enjoyed the clean taste of the pork, which obviously was not peppered with any seasoning. You get to add your own seasonings depending on how tasty you wanted your pork katsu.

The serving size deserved praise. The breading was nicely done.

You get to choose the dressing for the cabbage and salt, if you wanted to season your katsu.

The chicken katsu looked exactly the same as the pork version. The taste was also very good. The cabbage together with the sesame mayo was really awesome.

One good thing we noticed - waiters were respectful and alert. We were often asked if we wanted more cabbage, and if we wanted anything else.

We had a satisfactoy Yabu experience today, and definitely, we will go back for another Katsu treat. Be prepared to pay about Php 400 - 500 per person, but for me. it's worth the price.
