It's Time for A Cool Change: Windows 8

After all these years, the START MENU will finally be somewhere else.

But instead of a drop down, it blows up into colorful squares on the screen. Microsoft has launched a sneak peak at what Windows 8 (or whatever they decide to call it at launch time) will look like. Moving along with the mecca of digital tablets, the new operating system will introduce "live tiles", which makes it fit for touchscreen user interfaces. It's almost identical to Microsoft's mobile interface. That doesn't mean though that you won't be able to navigate using your mouse and keyboard. They're called live tiles because it gives you updates inside the square. It reminds me of the browser interface which shows you all the sites you've visited. Not much information has been released, but I am very curious to know what they have in store in terms of security, the updates of Internet Explorer, and file handling.

It's about time Microsoft did an overhaul of their operating system, especially since the much anticipated Mac O/S Lion is about to change desktop computing as we know it. What an O/S battle we will see when this one hits the market next year.
